Khady dreams of developing her community with training from CREATE! By producing vegetables and chickens for local markets and by increasing economic opportunities in Fass Koffe, she hopes that young people will no longer need to move to urban areas for employment.
Khady Kebe, 57, has been the cooperative group president in Fass Koffe since CREATE! first initiated program activities in the community five years ago. Khady’s dedication to CREATE!’s philosophy has been truly essential to the success of our programs in Fass Koffe.
As cooperative group president, Khady supervises activities at the garden site and helps women if they have questions about agriculture practices. Khady has worked tirelessly to mobilize and motivate women in her community to sustain their participation in CREATE! programs. A natural leader, Khady maintains discipline in the cooperative and ensures that disputes are resolved and program activities run smoothly.
She believes that CREATE! field technicians “taught us [the women] techniques that will serve us throughout our lives.” In addition, women in Fass Koffe no longer need to purchase vegetables and chickens from markets in other communities. Khady praises the CREATE! cooperative garden program for fighting against unemployment and poverty in Fass Koffe.
