Recently there has been a spontaneous surge in demand for CREATE!’s clay-sand improved cookstove. In the past few months, our Field Team has further developed and cultivated our relationship with the Senegal Department of Water and Forestry (see our latest newsletter for more details) to facilitate training in the construction and use of the CREATE! cookstove in several nearby villages. But the demand for CREATE!’s cookstove stove is even greater than this!
A restaurant owner here in the small town of Gossas, where our Country Program Office is located, recently asked the CREATE! Field Team for assistance building a cookstove of her own. When customers of this popular restaurant saw the CREATE! cookstove – and learned that it not only significantly reduced fuelwood consumption but was something they could build themselves at no cost using clay, sand, dried grass and water – they wanted to build one of their own.
Everyone in Gossas started talking about CREATE!’s cookstove! To meet the demand, our Field Team held trainings that anyone in the community of Gossas could attend. Within days, women in the community built eleven more stoves, and more are on the way.
We’re all excited about the growing use and demand for CREATE!’s improved cookstove and the many benefits it will bring to households in the community, including reduced fuelwood consumption, faster cooking time for meals, and decreased smoke from cookfires.
