In the five years she has worked with CREATE! field technicians in Fass Kane, Mane Kebe has developed amazing agricultural skills. She has even started her own small garden at her home using the knowledge she gained through her participation in CREATE! programs. Mane says, “now that I can produce my own vegetables and chicken rather than buying them from the market, our family has secure access to food.”

Mane Kebe, 40, lives in Fass Kane with her husband and family. Her husband teaches Arabic, Mane sells fruit and juices in the village market, and together they raise peanuts, horses, and goats.

Cooperative members in Fass Kane harvested and sold nearly 30 pounds of eggplants in the month of March.

The agricultural cooperative in Fass Kane recently harvested eggplants and peppers. Women are now preparing vegetable seedlings that can withstand heat and dry conditions. Although Mane enjoys working at the cooperative garden site, she is immensely proud of her own garden at home.

Mane praises CREATE! for “teaching us skills that will serve us throughout our lives.” Her dream is to use the knowledge that she gained from CREATE! to continue to develop her rural community so that young people do not have to leave to look for work.

CREATE! field technicians have helped cooperative members prepare vegetable seedling nurseries in the Kass Fane garden plot. The cooperative is currently caring for eggplant, pepper, tomato, okra, turnip, and cabbage seedlings.
