CREATE! is thrilled to announce that our programs in Senegal have received international acclaim at the COP21 climate negotiations in Paris! On December 8 in Paris, the Women and Gender Constituency (WGC) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) chose CREATE! as a recipient of the Gender Just Climate Solutions Award. The WGC showcased Gender Just Climate Solutions aimed at making gender responsive and equitable solutions visible and central to just climate action.
The WGC recognized CREATE! for its community-based climate change adaptation programs in rural Senegal. CREATE! programs train and empower rural women to reduce deforestation, promote alternative energy technologies, and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The WGC, a civil society observer of the UNFCC COP21, works to ensure that global commitments like COP21 embrace gender equality and women’s rights. The WGC strives to be a voice for women and to formalize and unify the perspectives of women and gender civil society organizations active in the UNFCCC processes.
CREATE! is honored to be chosen as a recipient of the Gender Just Climate Solutions Award and we look forward to the outcomes of the climate negotiations in Paris.
